Today was the perfect day. The sun was out lighting up the entire city. There was a cool breeze filling the air, but not too cold. Most of the adults were working, and most of the children were attending school, so he was all alone. The excited Coluan steps out onto the park grass, shifting his eyes around to see if anyone was there.
"Perfect"
Querl was wearing a purple shirt jacket with the Time Institute hourglass insignia on the left side, and his lab pants. His slipped a small golden ring out of his pants pocket.
He smiled upon his creation with utter glee. Without saying a word, he quickly slipped on the ring and made a fist. He could feel something i his stomach. Something sapiens would call butterflies, but Querl knew better.
"Alright..Here goes.."
Querl pointed his fist towards the air, and closed his eyes. "Up,Up....and...Away!" Suddenly the Coluan was 100 ft. off the ground , he quickly stops himself out of sheer surprise. "W-whoa...I..I did it?..I mean of course I have!"
Querl quickly darted through the air, closing his eyes and letting his mind run. "Hmm, Hm,Hm,Hm, Hmmm, Hm,Hm,Hm,Hmm,Hm,Hm,Hm,Hm....Superman!" Querl was humming in his head, as he glided through the morning sky. He felt so much like his idol, it was one of the most exhilarating things of his life. Even trumping time travel.
"Brainiac 5, You've done it again."
As soon as he starts to congratulate himself, the ring *fzzt's*. "Oh Dear.." He immediately starts plummeting towards the ground. He starts toggling through his chrome belt on his pants for the gravity parachute he kept in case of this very situation. He plummets quicker and quicker, becoming comet like in the sky. He quickly presses the button in his belt slowly descending him towards the ground....

Querl stayed face down on the floor for a couple of seconds, both in contemplation and embarrassment. Part of him was proud that he had finally gotten the flight ring to work after all of this time, but was disappointed at the failures he made in calculations. As he laid in contemplation he heard a very familiar voice. One he didn't expect to ever hear from again.
Brin. The last time he saw the feral teen he had saved his life, helped him discover a "legionnaire", and then became a savage monster. Querl was able to subdue him somehow, and has been pondering that day ever since. In that time, however, Querl had finally deduced Brin's past, and why he was the way he was to a full extent. His research had taken him back to a certain "Mar Londo".
Querl stood up from the ground, and waited for a few seconds before responding. "Well, Technically, I can't. Prototype in testing, unfortunately." Querl was genuinely surprised that he was able to find him. Coluans didn't have sweat glands, or any means of producing a scent. Querl must have still had the scent of the diner left in his hair. This is why most Coluans didn't have hair.
"No need to thank me, You did save my life after all. The least I could do. As for the little debacle, It's been taken care of, and as long as you can maintain control, then there's no need to apologize....friend." Querl extended his left hand offering to shake his savior, and potential friend, Brin with a genuine smile on his face. In the display of kindness, Querl's flight ring accidentally slipped off of his finger flinging it past Brin across the park.

Tinya sighed, she felt so lonely lately. She walked into the park and noticed the stranger she had seen a few days ago and another young man about her age. She hesitated to join them, she wasn't sure what she would say to them.
Tinya watched the duo interact for several minutes not sure what she was going to to. She started to walk away and leave them to their conversation, but she knew that would still leave her alone. She took a deep breath and walked over to them.
"Hi..." she said giving a nervous wave.

Querl was now in panic mode. The world around him started to fade out as the ring slipped off of his finger. It was sort of like the situation with his time viewer device, which almost got him hit by a car. He quickly ran past his friend, talking to him nonchalantly while diving for the ground. "I plan to use it to advance construction projects for the Time Institute, and perhaps use it as my alternative method of travel..." Querl continued to search frantically for the seemingly invisible object.
"Ah, You have it under control great to hear, perhaps you could use your refined sense of smell to-urg, No the ring doesn't give off any known scent, and my skin is artificial so...*sigh*" He continued crawling around feeling through the grass trying to analyze every blade for a sign of current movement, or breakage.
A girl seems to walk up to Brin and himself, but He is too focused on the task at hand. "Hello. Did you by any chance happen to see a small golden ring fly by? Going at approximately 20 miles per hour. It was about 8.235 inches in diameter." Querl didn't dare think of the consequences of the ring falling onto the wrong finger.

"Sure, I'll help.
Tinya joined the other two searching for this ring, she wasn't sure what she was looking for but she'd help the best she could. She then noticed a glint coming from over by a tree. She went over to the object and lifted the ring.
"Is this it?" she asked holding it up for inspection.

Querl extended his next and turned it around 180 degrees, while his body continued inspecting the ground. As soon as he saw the shiny chrome ring in her hands, He quickly shot up.
"Ah! Yes, Whatever you do, be really REALLY careful with that alright?"
Scenarios started shooting through Querl's head. Worst case scenario was this girl putting the ring on, and discovering it's flight capabilities. She seemed to be an acquaintance of Brin's meaning she couldn't be all that bad. Still, She could have also deceived Brin with malicious intent. Either way the main priority was to safely get the ring back, and hopefully not have to explain how a simple ring could allow flight capabilities to those of rather lesser intellect. Querl didn't like considering his friend, Brin, of lesser intellect, but it was simply true.

"No problem" she replied presenting the ring to Brainy "Glad I could help out."
She looked at the ring, curious as to what it did but not willing to put it on. She figured it wouldn't be polite to put the ring on without permission and plus it would give them a bad impression of her.
"What does it do?"

Laying low, or as Alexis liked to call it being inconspicuous was something she had been forced into due to her recent fiasco in downtown New Metropolis. So she had caused some damage to a major intersection that would cost a couple grand to repair? So what if about five people were hospitalized? Last time she checked they weren’t anywhere near fatal so it wasn’t as if they could put murder on her head or anything like that. She had even went as far as to generously give money to the families of the injured as well as a few more to the city intersection that was in dire repair. Alexis Luthor wasn’t that bad after all. A tad bit irresponsible, but she wasn’t a bad person.
Regardless, the board of Lex Corp were not thrilled with her recent test run. In fact, they were livid and wide eyed about the idea of Alexis’ public display of the new technology they were ready to unveil. They even went so far as to blame her for the setback in the technology’s debut date – they needed the media to cool down about this new piece before they actually introduced it to the world. Because of this, because of Alexis’ child’s play she had cost the company a couple thousand dollars in spending and another million on damage control.
She was quite literally on the very end of her stick right now.
By order of her father, she was put under lock down and oversaw by a reprogrammed Wodehouse as well as a few hefty body guards. The objective was to keep the young menace in her intended office at Lex Corp and to ensure that she stayed out of trouble.
But trouble was her first name, and after the first few hours of captivity Alexis had created a holographic clone of herself and waltzed out of the towering building under the disguise of one of daddy’s hired bodyguards. The holographic onset of her body guard was so well produced that none of the individuals that interacted with her even gave a second glance. Within seconds she had exited the building and now, here she was strolling through the New Metropolis Park. To conceal her rather distinguished appearance, the young billionaire princess was utilizing an active chameleon camouflage technology that she had been working on for quite some time.
Although she retained the same height and overall body shape of Alexis Luthor, she sported a head of dark brown hair that was pulled up into a high ponytail and her fringe was swept to the side. The freckles on her face seemed to have fade away and in its place was the perfect clear complexion of a teenage girl. The final touch was to modify her brilliant green eyes and change them to a dull dark brown. All in all, when she looked at her reflection she didn’t appear to look special or distinguishable in any way. She was completely invisible.
To complete her guise, she wore rather laid back attire. It consisted of a blue, oversized oxford shirt that was fitted to her waist with a small black belt. Her legs were smoothed out by opaque black stockings and almost hidden underneath the oversized shirt was a pair of tight black shorts.
Alexis yawned rather audibly as she took a seat on a park bench and stretched out her long slender legs. Looking down at the pair of red combat looking lace up boots, she sighed wondering what she would do now, now that she was out of that stifling office and back out in the world.
New Metropolis was so boring, she thought to herself as she huffed and leaned back into the bench. Her gaze absentmindedly fell upon the Coluan who was situated several feet away from her, slightly concealed by the natural foliage. Despite his appearance, she paid no real mind to him as she contemplated the idea of traversing to another planet. Maybe she needed a vacation, some time away from all of this. Her parents, the board, they were all stifling her and the limit on creativity that they were placing on her was quite unsettling to say the least.
Did they really have to blow up every time she got into a little bit of trouble?
Wrinkling her nose, the young Luthor let out an exasperated huff and kicked at the ground. A few birds that were feeding in the area scattered away. As if amused by their reaction, Alexis stood up and began to stomp in their general direction rather childishly as means to torment the poor creatures. It was at that moment from the corner of her eye she caught sight of the Coluan again, but this time he was in midair and steadily rising.
Curiosity seriously peaked, Alexis abruptly stopped her little rampage and watched in awe as the young Coluan disappeared behind the tree tops and reappeared once again just above the treeline.
“What the sprock?” Alexis muttered as her gaze followed the green little being. He rose higher and higher, nearly disappearing from her field of vision. A quick calculation in Alexis’ head placed the Coluan at one hundred feet which was impressive considering that she had nod noticed any obvious means of propulsion on the little man. Following her curiosity, she felt her body slowly move forward. Her boots moved from the hard concrete surface to the soft, lush green Earth and slowly she followed the Coluan, her head raised and eyes straining to see him through the sunlight. Her concentration was slowly focused on him and only him, then suddenly she realized as the speck of the young man grew larger and larger, he was falling. Falling straight for the ground. She chuckled slightly, wondering what exactly his contingency plan was for such an error. Another laugh escaped her lips as she watched him painfully fall through the tops of the trees and from her distance she pressed against the side of the large maple besides her and awaited his obviously painful collision with the Earth. Contact was not made however, well not the way that Alexis had predicted. As if getting a grip on himself, the Coluan seemed to stop mid-flight and slowly he descended the remaining five feet to the ground and softly landed back on the Earth’s surface. Peculiar. Alexis thought, scanning the green man’s body to try to find any irregularities or accessories that would indicate an ability to fly. She was annoyed to find nothing and at that moment was going to step forward and demand an explanation. Alexis was stopped however when a young, rather hairy and rugged humanoid creature stepped out from diagonal her position and greeted the Coluan. Curious. They’re familiar with one another. The arch of her brow was growing higher and higher as she watched the two interact. As far as she recalled, the Coluan’s were not exactly friendly with other sentient beings. Not only that, but she was not familiar with the were-wolf looking man that stood before her. None of her culture classes had educated her on such an alien species so she was left to conclude that he may be a augmented species of some sort. Their conversation continued much to Alexis’ chagrin and boredom. She was still more interested in understanding how the Coluan had taken flight seemingly without aid. As she prepared to step out of the shadows and demand some answers, another individual stepped into the scene and Alexis caught sight of the familiar face of Tinya Wazzo. She recognized the girl from a recent party her parent’s held that had a few United Planets’ politicians in attendance. Tinya had been there alongside her mother Winema and as far as Alexis was concerned the girl looked like an absolute bore. Wrinkling her nose in annoyance, she watched as conversation continued to unfold. Her attention was fleeting now, but it was suddenly brought back at the mention of golden ring that the Coluan was searching for. Her brow arched again in slightly interest and she scanned the ground around her hoping that maybe the ring had landed nearby. Of course, luck wasn’t on her side today and the voice of Tinya alerted her that the accessory had been found and returned to its rightful owner. So close, she would think to herself as she leaned against the tree bark again and listened in rather intently. Tinya inquired about the device and it was at this point Alexis had grown fed up with the pleasantries and small talk. “Well isn’t it obvious.” She began, stepping out from behind the tree in one swift movement and bringing her arms to cross rather confidently across her chest. “It’s a self-propelled mechanism designed specifically for flight.” She spoke quickly but clearly, flicking her eyes from each individual in the group who stared at her with a mixture of emotion in the faces. “This Coluan was testing its flight capability – obviously it looks like he erred – but really that’s not my place to say. Perhaps it is the questionable feasibility of a ring as a means of flight that could be the cause of error... but please, Coluan enlighten us." Her gaze fell heavily upon the green skinned boy and they stared at him rather intently, burning with curiosity and something else that lingered just beneath the surface. As Querl was getting ready to explain the intricacies and delicate nature of the device to the female before him, He was surprised by the appearance of another girl. Here appearance was startling, as Querl once believed he was alone in this park. What was even more startling was her accurate assumption of the flight ring's purpose.
But...How? There was no way she could have deduced the ring's purpose merely from sight alone, that was the point of making it a ring. Perhaps, She had been watching him in secret during his test. Still, something seemed off about her appearance, Querl couldn't quite make it out just yet. Either way, she was seemingly knowledgeable about his ring technology, which is very peculiar, seeing as how he was the only person aware of it.
He was actually quite impressed by her mental capabilities, perhaps she would make a great colleague-"obviously it looks like he erred"
What? What did she just say? Did she just-?
Querl slowly walked up trying to take the ring out the hands of the familiar girl who had found out , without taking his eyes off of the imputent one.
"For your information, This flight technology is eons ahead of it's time. I don't expect someone such as yourself to understand the intricacies of such an advanced mechanization."
Querl's been ridiculed before for his works, but this was different. The flight ring was his pet project, something he'd been working on for quite some time. A device that allowed the user to harness flight from free will was amazing, and he wasn't going to be made a fool of for it.
"I use aeronautical couplings, I designed myself! They-" Then it dawned on him, she was up to something. She had been spying from afar, so she must have been interested in this technology. Obviously, she also has, or at least believe she has, a superior intelligence.
What's your game?
Querl inspected this girl with his eyes, trying to find any anomalies, or distinguish what species she was. She look very familiar to him, but he couldn't place his finger on it. Either way, She knew a little too much, and Querl could tell she was up to no good.
"Actually, You're absolutely correct. The ring was a very poor choice as a method of flight wear, You have shown me the.....error of my ways..." Querl tried to be as inconspicuous as possible with grabbing the ring so the girl couldn't snatch it from the unsuspecting one.
It was obvious that the brown haired one recognized the black haired one, the she spoke to her with mild distain would confess to that. Of course, Querl usually spoke to others in manner on a normal basis, but it was different,

Tinya gave the girl a hard look, she didn't look familiar but there was something about the way the girls sounded that was oddly familiar. Tinya couldn't put her finger on exactly where she had seen this person before but she knew she must have, the question was where.
"Do I know you?" Tinya asked the new arrival

Rambling
Was the thought that occurred in her head as she placidly observed the Coluan speak of the nature of his device. Her bored expression drifted from the quick motions of his green hands as he head the small ring and then to the other two participants that stared her down heavily as if she were a huge intrusion on their playdate.
Insulting
Was another thought that crawled into her mind as she caught word of Brainiac making a slight jab at her potential level of intelligence. True at this point she appeared like a normal, dumb-witted girl who was possibly out of element, but underneath the elusive camouflage she was one of the brightest (and youngest) minds of the 31st century. It was most unfortunate however that the true identity of Alexis Luthor could not grace the presence of these simpletons. Perhaps another time, but certainly not now.
She would let the insult slide, as she recalled the Coluan’s were a hot-headed, egotistical , no nonsense, logical race – simply, this little alien didn’t know any better.
The presence of ego and logic showed its ability to contradict however as the rambling Coluan brought his explanation to a halt. His speech shifted onto another direction and what was originally the words of a pride was now caution and suspicion. He was right in maintaining the secrecy of his invention, while Alexis was certainly no thief – her pride and ingenuity would not allow such things – there was no stopping her in using his invention as a source of inspiration and to create something that was entirely her own. What did he say this device was – eons ahead of its time? Of course she wanted to know more about its properties, but the Coluan was hesitant and unwilling to tend to her audience, she would have to convince him another way.
The ego route seemed the most logical.
For the time being, she would have to entertain the Wazzo girl who was asking stupid questions that Alexis wished she wouldn’t have to answer. For the sake of appearances however and in order to play her cards right she would have to play the game safely. Besides, it was just Tinya who was making the intrusive inquiries at least the were-beast remained in the background somewhat uninterested but otherwise on guard.
Her thin lips formed a forced smile as she brought her brown eyes to stare down unto Tinya. Friendliness was the furthest thing from her expression, but that was something Alexis was not naturally good at. Her smile seemed distant and rather unsettling as she gazed at Tinya with the most insincere expression possible by a human being.
“If your inquisition is in doubt, wouldn’t it lead to the conclusion that perhaps we are not familiar with one another?” Brow cocked and gaze meant to impair, Alexis stared down at Tinya, daring her to ask her another futile question. She could try, but if she continued to annoy the young genius then there would have to be serious parameters set into place – specifically the amount of questions allotted in one day. Assuming she would be able to come up with a response, Alexis refocused her attention on the Coluan who was no doubt just about finished with her audience. Unfortunately, Alexis was here to stay. Well only until she got a little more out of the green, robotic being. “I’m curious Coluan, the Thanagarians utilized a special metal… what was it – Nth. It’s special properties included the negation of gravity… would it be possible that your erroneous device utilizes the same material?” She bat her lashes in a rather playful way as she clasped her hands behind her back and smiled toward Brainiac. ”Forgive my inquisitions… it is after all such a rarity to be educated by the likes of you – a Coluan. I’d respectfully love to learn more about your invention.” Another smile, flick of the eyes and a small toss of her hair. The Coluans were not known for their emotions or to find anything but information attractive, but this one seemed to have a particular interest in his own pride, one that Alexis was willing to fiddle with to her own beneficiary needs. " She knew way more than she was letting on. Nth Metal isn't an alloy too many humans, at least Earth humans, are aware of. Added to the fact that, that was pretty much an on the nose assessment, had he not used the derivative. This was starting to get more and more suspicious, as time went on. At this point, his curiosity had been peaked, so he wasn't leaving just yet. Her disingenuous smile, and disposition was almost amusing to him. He smiled back, matching her levels of "genuineness". The way she spoke, She'd obviously interacted with Coluans before, as she tried reaching out to his ego. He would be lying if he said, it didn't work completely. " Of course, It's always a treat to meet an inquiring mind such as yourself. However, I am far too busy, and should really be getting back to work. " Why was she so interested in his flight ring? Obviously, this was a marvel of technology, but she didn't seem to be the type to be wowed by technological marvels as such. Perhaps, She had finally seen something, truly "never before seen." Either way, every fiber of his being told him not to let her in on this. She smiled again, doing very subtle gestures of interest. Perhaps, she had used her beauty as a way of swaying others to assist her, or give in. Surely, she knew he, as most Coluans, couldn't give a care in the world, to these things. Whatever she was playing at, was of no good intention. [/ul]

Careful Alexis.
The not so subtle jab at her ability to understand complex concepts did not go unnoticed by the young woman. While she did not verbally expression her rather contemptuous opinion of the Coluan’s manner in which he spoke to her – it was as plain as day in her face. Or it just looked like she had just ingested something that was so absolutely horrid and could not spit it out. The young genius bit her tongue, repeating in her head ’if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’ Crude remarks would not get her what she wanted and she wanted so badly to send this Coluan crying a high-tailing it back to his part of the galaxy.
Look at him, he’s harmless. If she just reminded herself of how much of a lesser being he was then maybe this situation would not get out of hand. Maybe. She took the moment to instead think over the element he had introduced, Valorium was it? A derivative of Nth metal, she had not heard of this before and the fact that he could possibly be the only individual in possession of such a rare element made its intricacies even more attractive. She had to obtain some formula at least be pushed in the right direction to generate her own product. If she could make Valorium and in large amounts it would change – it would change a lot of things. Like for example, he board would finally stop treating her like an animal and locking her up in the office. Alexis pursed her lips, acknowledging that she had to do everything in her power to be placed in the Coluan’s good graces. She could synthesize Valorium herself, but who knew how long that would take, she would need to first obtain Nth metal and under her current “house-arrest” she couldn’t possible travel across the galaxy and back without going unnoticed. Things were moving rather quickly now and Coluan was changing topics, moving it onto formal leaves to be out of her presence. ”Ah! Perhaps I could be of help?”She looked down sheepishly and pushed her dark brown fringe behind her ear. Her demeanor was rapidly changing now and a small tinge of red could be seen forming on her cheeks as she feigned embarrassment. ”I mean… I don’t want to sound intrusive. But you see I’m a student at the science academy and- and I’d love to be placed under your apprenticeship or work under you.” By this point her personality was performing a complete 360, but it was necessary, necessary for learning more about this Valorium. ”You work just sounds so intriguing, it would be a great assets to my studies in developmental alloys.”She pressed forward, her brown eyes pleading as she looked (for once) rather genuinely interested in the Coluan and his immense storage of knowledge. "He muttered under his breath. Now she was offering to assist him? Either she was suffering from a severe bi-polar disorder, or He was correct in his assessment. The latter being the more likely of the two. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, and sighed as she continued on. As he looked back up, he noticed a drastic change in the demeanor of the girl before him. What the hell did she think she was doing? Apparently, she was a student at the Science Academy, which was such a blatant lie. Far from him to ever admit it, but she was much to smart for the Science Academy. None of those hacks would have even gotten close to guessing the material this was made from. Of course, the real statement of intrigue was that she inquired about apprenticeship. He, himself, was only really an intern at the Time Institute, even if he was brighter than most of them. She claimed to be studying developmental alloys. Convenient. She appeared to be humble by human standards, but what did he know about human standards. She had be facetious this entire time, what made her think, a fake smile, and some skin pigmentation would convince him otherwise. Still, perhaps this was the perfect opportunity to get her off his back. Selective Disinformation was quite the powerful tool. He stepped forward, eyeing her over once. " Hm, Yes. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt for you too observe my work for at least a short period. I can speak to the Institute about allowing me an assistant...Though you must do everything I say. " He sighed. " People, such as yourself, aren't really comfortable with that, Will we have any problems ?" [/ul]

Hesitation, or what she thought might be what was going through the Coluan's head as he considered her offering. Alexis wasn't entirely confident in him believing her off the tip lie, but at the very least he seemed to be somewhat considering her proposal. She was unsure of how far this circus would go, but as long as she got just another look or even touch of this unique device then it would help her immensely in its potential development.
For the time being however she had to retain the Coluan's interest. She could tell by his waning expression that he was becoming uninterested, perhaps a tinge bit annoyed and somewhat bothered by her presence over all. If only Alexis hadn't been so Alexis in her approach, perhaps she would have had better chances. No time to reconsider actions however, the situation was here and now and Alexis was notorious for getting what she wanted.
Even if it meant using a little force.
Really the only thing holding her back was the fact that she was incognito; keeping a low profile; being inconspicuous. She didn't want to draw any more attention to herself than necessary, let alone have these individuals start posing prying questions for lies that she was not interested in maintaining.
After all, it would be an absolute pain and blow to her ego maintaining this current persona. Her eyes flickered off the side slightly as the Coluan's words processed within her thought banks once again.
'Though you must do everything I say.'
The very idea made her shudder very noticeable, but she played it off as if there were a sudden breeze that picked up. Her teeth gnashed down on her pink lips as her heart rate began to pick up and she mustered the pure strength and willpower to utter her carefully chosen words.
"As I expressed before... it would be an absolute honor to work alongside a bright mind much like yourself."
The next bit required a little more force and she had to clench her fists as the words were essentially forcibly exhumed from her vocal cords.
"I am quite sure there is very much I can learn under you."
She froze slightly at the mere utterance of the words and swallowed what felt like rocks down her throat. Her eyes trembled slightly as she held back laughter, completely unable to believe she had uttered such a ridiculous statement.
It's all about appearances Alexis.
"I do have the time now, perhaps we can accompany one another to the institute and look to begin my apprenticeship from there.
This was no inquiry, nor a suggestion. It was a demand and Alexis would not take no for an answer.
