We understand that writing a character profile is pretty heavy work, and at the end of it all you see that you are required to provide a Sample RP Post. Why? You're probably asking yourself. You're also wondering, based on the quality (and perhaps quantity) of other individual posts will I be required to match up to it?
When we look at a Sample Post, we're looking for very specific things. Sometimes these attributes can be captured in a just two paragraphs, other times it can be captured in a page long sample. It's whatever the writer is capable of really. To relieve you from the daunting task of submitting a writing sample, we'd like to point out what exactly we're looking for- this way you can go with confidence.
Since we pride ourselves in providing a quality writing experience we'd like to see the following from our members:
- Attention to Detail
Does your post provide a clear picture of the setting? If there are individuals in our post, is your character distinguishable? What time of day is it? What's the weather like. Are you in a warehouse or a park. These little things count, and when it comes to an overall writing experience knowing where you are is half of the story. We basically look for the writer's ability to portray a reasonable setting and to give enough detail where we feel like we are diving into your world.
- Character Portrayal
Every character is unique, and every character has their own nuances and personal fire. We'd like to see if you stay true to the character description provided, and if so how do you go about portraying it? It's important that you write the character Batman as the cold and stoic individual that he is - and not some childish. Character personality is important, we want to see if you feel that same too.
- Writing Quality
Finally, as a forum that looks to provide a quality writing experience we want our writers to take their characters and their posts seriously. We'd prefer that "one-line" responses are not resorted to, and we'd like to see some thought put into your writing. Remember, this is a story telling process and if you don't provide a response and maybe a little more, the stories might just end up going nowhere.
We thank you for taking the time to read this.
Best regards, We Are Legion Staff Members
