andromeda
Name: laurel gand Origin: andromeda SPECIES: daxamite GENDER: female | HEIGHT: 5'9" WEIGHT: 140 lbs AGE: 15 ALIGNMENT: good, legion |
POWERS
- Daxamite Physiology: Laurel has got powers that are native to all Daxamites if they were in a solar system with a yellow sun, similar to Kryptonians.
- Longevity: They have a longer lifespan than normal human beings.
- Light Gravity Augmentation: Like Superman, born on a giant world with a heavy gravity, Laurel's muscles automatically become super-strong in Earth's light gravity. From this source, Laurel also acquires her various abilities such as:
- Superhuman Strength: A daxamite can lift over one hundred thousand tons. This makes their strength on par with Superman's.
- Superhuman Speed: Daxamites can run, think, and fly at supersonic speeds and even at light speeds.
- Superhuman Breath: Daxamites can generate hurricane like winds from their mouth.
- Superhuman Stamina: Under a yellow sun, daxamites have virtually unlimited stamina in all activities.
- Flight: Daxamites can defy gravity and fly at speeds almost incomprehensible to an ordinary human being. Laurel can fly to a "distant" galaxy and back in "mere minutes". Flying at super-speed, she can break the time-barrier and travel into the past or the future.
- Solar Radiation Absorption: Born under the influence of Daxam's red sun, the ultra solar rays of Earth's yellow sun can super-energize her brain and five senses to give her other, non-muscular, super-powers, such as super-senses and mental powers, x-ray vision, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, super-hearing, super-memory and super-calculations.
- Invulnerability: Also, yellow-sun rays, which only tan Earth people's skin, harden Laurel's skin like steel. Neither radium rays, nor lightning, nor fire can harm her, making her virtually invulnerable.
- Superhuman Senses
- Acute Hearing: A daxamite can hear sounds across a planet with ease.
- Telescopic Vision: A daxamite can see things that are very far away.
- Microscopic Vision: Daxamites can see really small objects
- X-Ray Vision: Daxamites can see through any substance except lead. Ordinary x-rays cannot penetrate Laurel's body. Laurel's x-ray vision is either invisible to the eye or glows yellow.
- Heat Vision: Daxamites can emit heat beams from their eyes. Laurel can survive in the core of Earth's sun, and in fact, she can turn her heat vision up to the "Nth degree", which is many times hotter than the sun's core. Her heat-vision glows red.

ABILITIES
- Hand to Hand combat: Laurel has been trained in hand to hand combat while she relies mostly on her strength she does have some formal training and knows certain moves although like most beings with super strength then tend to rely more on their brute strength rather then their actual movements.
- Survival skills: She is very skilled in common and uncommon survival skills. She was taught how to survive in an urban setting as well as out in the wilderness. There is no area that she would not be able to figure out with time how to survive in.
- Strategist: She had been trained to take in details and use what she knows to find advantages and disadvantages in the enemy’s defenses. She can find the best way to get into an area or out of it with the least amount of detection if she desires it.
WEAKNESSES
- Lead: Like all Daxamites, lead is fatally poisonous to Andromeda. Protracted exposure to lead will prove fatal, however even minimal exposure will make her sick and eventually kill her as well. While lead is not present on her home-world of Daxam, Andromeda had to wear a "trans-suit" when she came to Earth to prevent the naturally occurring lead from poisoning her. This weakness was eventually remedied with a serum developed by Brainiac 5 of the Legion, thus making Andromeda completely invulnerable to anything other than someone as strong as or stronger than her. (While this is something that will happen currently she has not been able to be cured of her weakness to lead)
- Ego: Let's face it her own over confidence can and will be her downfall, she tends to think of herself as better than everyone else and often times that looking down your nose at someone gets you into trouble. Her ego is also more than a little inflated. She thinks she's invincible and has yet to face the harsh reality that she's not.
- Spiders: For being as strong minded and willed and let's not forget opinionated you might be rather surprised to find that she's rather afraid of spiders not that she'd ever let you see it but it makes for some comical moments at time.
- Sea food: Laurel has never been a huge fan of fish and often times will turn her nose up merely because of the smell, but that isn't to say that if desperate times call for desperate measure she won't shut up and eat it.
- A Disappointment: Laurel for all her beliefs and opinions has a strong desire to please under all that attitude and she doesn't want to be a disappointment and thus this often can lead to shaky ground or moments of weakness.
EQUIPMENT
- Uniform: A red skin tight suit with blood red pants with shimmering specks of gold in them and a tight corset red top that is the same red with the same gold specks of gold, the outfit is complete with a gold boots that go just below her knees protecting her shins and a set of gold gloves and a few trinkets of gold on each arm. One is on her left arm just along her bicep the other is on her right along her shoulder and it connects to the gold collar of sorts that’s around her neck to give her a little added protection not that she needs it. The costume does have a matching red cloak complete with a hood but she doesn’t wear that all the time. (Here is an image of the outfit just so everyone can know really what it looks like.)
- Legion Flight Ring: All Legionnaires were presented with a flight ring that enabled them to defy gravity and sustain movement through the air by aerodynamically generating force. (not that she needs it to fly or anything or that she has it yet)
PERSONALITY
If you were to ask others what word they would use to describe the Legionaire known as Andromeda, you would get a range of words that fit this young Daxamite. A few words that come to mind when asked about Laurel Gand is Hot-headed, Reckless, Stubborn, some may even go so far as to call her Racist, not in the way one might think though or if they are being nice Opinionated might be a word used., others if they like her despite her faults may call her Loyal or even a surprisingly good Team player, it depends on who you ask. That may be the sad truth, but it’s true and that’s all the matters right? Right, but who really cares what other people think of Laurel…she certainly doesn't or so she tells herself.
Hot-headed describes this fiery blonde well enough. She’s got quite the temper and it’s far too easy to ignite the embers into a full blown raging inferno. She may not immediately voice her anger, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to tell by the look that falls onto her lovely face morphing it into a look that means you should drop dead before she does it for you. When provoked to the point where she actually verbally acknowledges her feelings of irritation that usually means leaving the room or apologizing rather quickly might be a good idea. When angered she can be dangerous, reckless even. Often striking before asking questions, she knows her superior strength and other abilities give her an advantage, one she isn’t against using to her every advantage. When a team member or an innocents’ life is in danger, while she may complain or voice her feelings of superiority, that doesn’t mean she won’t rush the scene to save the life that is threatened. She isn’t afraid to face a number of enemies alone; she had a tendency to think that she’s invincible and doesn’t need the help of others at all. She knows she’s got a rather big ego and that doesn’t bother her.
Stubborn and strong willed Laurel doesn’t know the meaning of quitting and she will always get back up if she ever does fall down, which is like never. She doesn’t know how to stay down to give up. When she believes she can do something, she will do no matter what; she’ll somehow make it happen. She has yet to run into a situation where she’s been unable to do whatever she feels she must do. When she sets her mind to something she’s stubborn, often times putting her foot down just because she feels she’s right, but that doesn’t mean she’s against another option if given the facts and the likelihood such a plan would be better than her own. Although she won’t admit she’s wrong, that doesn’t mean she won’t go along with the other plan that has been approved.
If she happens to ever be in the wrong that doesn’t mean she’s against apologizing, she will but it will be on her own time and often times it isn’t nearly as sincere as it should be, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t mean it, but that act just means she’s playing the role of acting as though her having to apologize doesn’t affect her, as though she doesn’t care, that’s she is still rock solid, and tough as nails. She surprisingly very hard on herself when such screw ups happen, but that doesn’t mean she’ll ever show it, and often times she’ll find someone else to blame, anyone else so long as she doesn’t have to admit that anything is/was her fault, at least aloud, aloud it’ll be someone else’s fault and if not someone, it’ll be something’s fault.
Her superiority bleeds from the fact that she thinks herself above others. She’s very opinionated in her views and won’t change them, but that doesn’t mean she is completely against having a discussion on opinions. She makes a few remarks here or there, but it shows she’s listening whether she necessarily agrees or does not. Her opinions define her and make her who she is. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible for someone to exceed what she expects, some people do it just takes time to show her that a rare few are special and aren’t confined to the little box she’s lumped them all in. There is a rather big negative to this, with her feelings of superiority it leaves her rather susceptible to her own ignorance, something that could manage to get her into trouble one day.
Laurel has always had a knack for surprising those she finds a certain bond with. While she’s got her negative qualities, a lot of them, the young woman is surprisingly loyal and isn’t against going to extreme lengths to protect those that she’s got the mysterious bond with, not that she’d ever admit it. Her loyalty is tough to earn, but it’s not impossible. When the chips are down you’ll have one person who despite everything will have your back, not that she won’t give you shit for it of course.
Being blonde has never been a reason to be ignorant in anything. She despite what others might believe is very intelligent picking up customs of other races and their languages with a surprising ease, although that doesn't mean she shows them the respect of using what she's learned. Her grasp of advanced weapons technology is vast, that doesn't mean she understands some of the other aspects of technology. This has pushed her to try and get an understanding and who better than to be pestering Querl with her questions. She has also been looking at the biological structures of other species to try and better herself and in what she hopes can rewire some the beliefs that she holds that are still hard to shake even after all these years.
What some may be surprised to learn that despite all her attitude and her give-a-crap displays and her bossiness she’s got a somewhat of a softer side not that any would ever see it but underneath all that capital B-ness is a young woman who wants to be accepted and has her own insecurities or fears just like anyone else. She’s got her own trust issues and will work to not let anyone see the soft side of her because she knows what weakness can get her and she’s not in the mood to be stabbed in the back and she knows how truly important her mission is.

RELATIVES
Lar Gand (ancestor); Del Gand (ancestor); Mother (unknown/not named)
HISTORY
As a child Laurel lived with her parents on one of the orbiting space stations that, served primarily as a line of defense against invasion, but the station did have other capabilities. Her mother, was the station commander, and had insisted that Laurel know how to operate the station's weapons and defense controls. This training proved crucial when the Khunds attacked, attempting to take out the station and any lines of defense to get to teach a lesson to the surrounding area. Laurel being only seven at the time was able to activate the defenses, utterly destroying the Khundian fleet and earning her both their fear and their enmity. She was declared an enemy of the Khundish Empire. Her mother felt was best after the attack on the Station that had nearly killed her daughter, earning her a nasty wound on her back from part of the station that had been damaged. The wound had healed but it had a couple weeks to heal completely and once that was done that’s when her mother sent her only daughter to Earth where her Daxamite physiology would help protect her and it would ensure her safety from the Khundians.
Her craft was intercepted on its way to Earth and she was taken into the custody of a group known as the White Triangles. Laurel Gand never made it to Earth, something that would take her mother several weeks to find out and by then there was merely no trace of the girl or the craft by which she had been traveling in. The White Triangle was a secret Daxamite-supremacist organization that adheres to the racist belief that Daxamites are superior to all other beings and that contact with non-Daxamite races is "unclean". Those raised in White Triangle communities are deliberately kept ignorant of the basics of biology and other sciences, so as to maintain their belief in the racial creeds of their society. From the age of 8 to 15, she was raised in that environment that helped feed her beliefs that the Daxamites were vastly superior to others. It was during that time that she was trained not only in their ways but also brainwashed and conditioned to have an almost fear of other species as they are seen as beneath them.
It was through the coaxing of the White Triangles that she was sent to join the Legion of Superheroes, as a double agent. Although this didn’t mean that it wasn’t without it’s draw backs. With Laurel away from Daxam's red sun, she gained powers similar to Superman's, but the race-wide hypersensitivity of Daxamites to lead that meant even minuscule amounts could prove fatal even to a powered-up Daxamite, forcing her to wear a transuit at all times. This did not trouble her, since it meant she never had to actually touch any non-Daxamites.
With this plan in motion she's been sent to Earth to try-out for the Legionnaries. The White Triangle wants her to be accepted into their fold and get information and whatever else they desire. Of course for most young operatives being a young double agent is hard and not nearly as easy as they make it out to be. Things never quite go according to plan. Laurel has now arrived on Earth is merely biding her time till it's her turn to try and make it onto this team, failure is not an option and she doesn't intend to be a disappointment.

INTERVIEW RECORDING
As Laurel came to her senses somewhere that was most definitely not the ship, she tried to remember what had happened to her. As she sat up carefully well aware of the hot sun beating down on her and the sand under her she frowned. Lifting a hand to cover her eyes as she looked around her frowning when she realized that she was around nothing but sand, sand and more sand, she was in a giant sandbox and she wasn’t even sure how she’d gotten here.
Relax Gand geez, let’s try and remember the last thing that we can and from there we will figure out just how this managed to happen.
She thought to herself as she allowed herself to remember the last thing that came clearly to mind. She was…yeah. “I was stuck guarding the ship, while everyone else left.” She mumbled to herself recalling the day in question easily enough.
The persistent beeping that came through a speaker by her bed is what woke her up. Her blue eyes staring into the darkness that surrounded her, from the safety of her bed, the sheets tangled around her legs. She breathed out a calming breath and ran her fingers through her tangled golden locks as she sat up ignoring the sheet as it pooled around her ankles as she pulled her knees to her chest. She shivered as her exposed skin was exposed to the temperature to keep her room in to better help her sleep. White shorts with fine light blue silk ribbon to tie the shorts tighter in a bow if she needed too and a light blue undershirt exposing the pale smooth skin of her arms and long legs.
”What’s going on?”
Laurel asked herself turning her head and looking at the small screen on the wall, a blinking red light was continuing the flash and a beep, as a reading was put on the screen that said ‘URGENT’ in big read leaders. Her fingers reached out the touch the screen, her index finger pressing the box and watching as the words filtered on the screen in blocks of text and with a touch to the little speaker on the bottom left of the screen, did it start to filler room with the sound.
Her heart beat in her throat and she was moving from her bed, rushing towards her closet, even as she slipped out of her clothes, her shorts the first to slid down her long legs as she stepped out of them in nothing but her undershirt and a pair of white silk panties with a light blue lacey trim along the edges. Her door to her room was open, but she paid it no mind, no one was here. She was alone on this massive ship alone, Garth Ranzz or as he liked to be called Lightening lad and Rokk Krinn as Cosmic Boy were both out on a joint mission leaving her to hold down the fort, Imra had taken the rest of the crew and sent them to a planet several days away and she’d gotten stuck holding down the fort for a small' argument with Shadow Lass, what an absolute bore. She wasn’t worried she knew she could handle it but now with the distress call, her computer had managed to pick up. She had her doubts that she could get there in time, if the computer read out was anything to go by, she couldn’t even fly there on her own, why did people have to be fragile?
Her fingers tugging down the suit that would offer her some protection from the elements of space, she hopped on one foot as she quickly moved to get it on, and pull it up to her knee before doing the same but switching feet to get it up her other leg. She let the material hang down around her waist as she moved pulling her top over her head and striding forward to throw open her drawers to put on a bra before shoving her feet in the boots by her bed and running out of her room towards the main computer. She didn’t even bother being fully dressed; she’d do that on the way.
Her fingers flew open over the keys accessing the small ship and imputing the coordinates that she’d need to get to the craft. She knew she could fly out there on her own but it wouldn’t do her any good to be unable to carry the girl with her safely and she very well could need medical attention. As the coordinates were set via the computer into the onboard computer she put the ship on a sort of lock down with a code that would make it inaccessible unless Garth, Rokk, Imra, herself or another Legion member put in the code to reawaken it.
As she moved her strides long and sure down the hallway towards the ship, another noise brought her attention to Querl’s lab and she frowned poking her head inside and wondering if that twerp had something that was waiting to explode, she peered around and followed the noise and came face to face with the small device, as she pressed a slender finger to the silver, metal surface, pleased to find that their ship wasn’t immediately engulfed in flames she moved to lift it up and turn it off. I don’t have time to bring the girl back to flaming ship…I need to turn this stupid thing off! the hot headed Daxamite thought to herself as she lifted the device in her hand and flipped it over, as it sat in her palm, it began to glow a bright white and she glared at it, tapping at the rounded top where the buttons where to get it to stop. With a growl she looked read to throw it into the nearest wall, but she never got the chance as she was immersed in the white light and teleported somewhere else.
Unbeknownst to Laurel Gand she had been transported from the Legion HQ to some off world desert planet somehow..that couldn't be good. As she stood up watching the way her feet sunk deeper in the sand, she frowned and began to levitate over this great sandbox that she was now in. She didn’t want to be here and wondered when the rest of her oh so darling team would notice that she was missing and she wondered for a brief moment if they would even care…that thought gave her a weird tightness in her chest.
“They have to care, what the hell are you talking about?!” she growled to herself crossing her arms with a dramatic huff as she blew her bangs out of her eyes. This was ridiculous clearly they would be looking for her soon, after all they needed her. She was valuable to them! I mean c'mon she was right up there with Superman just without the weakness to Krypton and her race hadn’t died out. She superior in everyway after all she no longer had her weakness to lead.
She glanced around realizing that she had no freaking idea where she was and that gave her an uneasy feeling. Laurel never was one to take to the fact that she wasn’t aware of just where she was. She like most people liked to be aware of just where she was and this was no like nothing she’d ever seen before. She hovered there considering her options.
With a hiss of air the young woman went higher up into the air and twisted around looking in all directions and only growing more and more frustrated as nothing was familiar to her at all. She had to look out of place, in a high tech space suit, with the zipper to said suit open exposing the blue bra and the toned, tan stomach of a young woman who clearly looked ready to loose her cool any moment in an explosive, rage.
Relax Gand geez, let’s try and remember the last thing that we can and from there we will figure out just how this managed to happen.
