lightning lad
Name: garth ranzz Origin: winath SPECIES: winathian GENDER: male | HEIGHT: 6'2" WEIGHT: 190 lbs AGE: 15 ALIGNMENT: legion of super-heroes |
POWERS
- Energy Absorption: Lightning Lad can absorb electrical energy into his body and rechannel it for offensive purposes. His body functions as a natural insulator, and he cannot be harmed from the effects of his own powers.
- Electrokinesis: Lightning Lad can generate and control fields of electrical energy. He can channel this energy through his hands and project it as a super-heated discharge with properties similar to that of lightning. Unlike true lightning, Mekt can manipulate these electric discharges in non-terrestrial environments such as outer space. Although the speed and voltage of his electric discharges has never been measured, it can be assumed that their affects are similar to that of a bolt of lightning. A bolt of lightning can travel at a speed of 100000 mph (160934 km/h), and can reach temperatures approaching 28000 °C (60000 °F), hot enough to fuse soil or sand into glass channels.
- Electro-Blast: When he first joined the Leigon of Super-Heroes, Garth could only produce electro-static effects by clapping his hands together, but with time and practice, he was able to hone his skill until he could fire bolts of lightning from his hands.
ABILITIES
Hand to Hand Combat: Since joining the Leigon Garth has made more of an effort to lean to fight in close quarters and not rely solely on his powers. While he is making strides he isn’t the best and can be overpowered by someone with more skill or power than him. He’s taking a liking to use a few moves in conjunction with his electric abilities.
WEAKNESSES
- Emotions: Most people may think emotions are just that feelings but for Garth and his new abilities they can react to high emotions whether they be stress, anger or if he is upset sometimes he can unintentionally shock someone or have a discharge of his powers or it can be something as simple as his eyes glowing with his electricity or his clothes or his uniforms having visible electricity flowing over them.
- Overload: He can over use his powers too much or put too of energy into a blast and be left weak or in some extreme cases he can cause himself to black out if the use of his powers is too much for him to handle.

PERSONALITY
You know those people who can just talk to anyone about anything? They are outgoing and very much a people person. That is Garth, he's very open and willing to talk to anyone about anything and he is often whom people find it easy to talk too. He gives off this confidence and self assurance that what he's doing is the right thing to do that people can't help but believe it. With him being so open this doesn't mean he can't keep secrets, he can and he even has a few of his own.
Being honest has always been important to Lightning Lad if you aren't honest how can the team put their lives in your hands? Garth is very much an open book and his feelings no matter what they are filter off across his face and there is no guess what he is feeling. He's honest about what he thinks but he does it in a nice if not careful attempt to not hurt anyone's feelings. That isn't to say he hasn't put his foot in his mouth ever so often or said his thoughts out loud and gotten into some serious girl trouble once or twice. If you like to him or to the team it's something he takes very personally and it takes a while for him to forgive someone when such a thing happens. He doesn't hold a grudge forever as that really isn't who he is. Fool him twice and there is very little opportunity for redemption but it can be done.
Garth has always wanted to make those around him feel welcomed and comfortable. He may not seem like the type but he's willing to learn from others around him about their culture and implement things to make them feel welcome and part of the team.
Garth is very protective of his family and his friends, even bordering on over protective. He's willing to fight for them with everything he has and this means that in certain instances he can put himself in odd situations that are none of his business's when it comes to one his friends safety or well being. He can make assumptions of others merely based on first appearances but that usually only happens when those that his friends or family happen to be dating and those never end very well for him as he can look pretty bad sometimes.
He can be reckless at times often times relying on his powers too much or brute force a little more than he should. He's very much the attack first and ask questions later. Winging it tends to be something he goes by quite often. Garth usually leaves the planning to Imra and Rokk choosing often times for the fast and hard approach. This doesn't mean that when the situation calls for it that he won't be willing to listen or follow the plan to the letter, he will. Sometimes he just gets a little overconfident which can get him into trouble.

HISTORY
Garth Ranzz was born the second of three children on the planet Winath. His parents loved their children and they all got along well and played together more so than with the other children around them. It was as they aged they were given more freedom and allowed to go off world so long as Mekt, Garth and Ayla went together and watched out for each other.
When he was fourteen years old, Garth and his older brother Mekt and twin-sister Ayla, attended a party on an alien planet. Returning home, their shuttlecraft malfunctioned and they crashed on the planet Korbal. They discovered that their ship had run out of power and that its engines needed to be recharged. Ayla suggested using the lightning beasts to recharge their ship so they could get home.
Garth was the one who lured a herd of Lightning Beasts towards the craft hoping to use their electrical discharges to repower the ship. The animals’ energy bursts struck the teens however and not the ship, imbuing all three of them with the ability to generate electricity. Garth, Ayla and Mekt used their powers to recharge the ship's engines and return home.
A short time later, Mekt Ranzz mysteriously disappeared into the underworld of the galaxy, and Garth set out to try to find him. He boarded a shuttle en route to the planet Earth where upon he met Rokk Krinn of Braal and Imra Ardeen of Titan. Also on the shuttle was R.J. Brande – a wealthy industrialist who claimed to be the third richest man in the galaxy. Garth and Rokk immediately bonded with one another, but Imra felt that the two of them were little more than childish boys. When the shuttle reached Earth, an assassin attempted to murder Brande, but Garth, Rokk and Imra used their respective powers to save the older man's life. Brande was so impressed with the teens' bravery, that he petitioned the United Planets to form a Legion of Super-Heroes.
Now the three of them are looking to recruit others to join their new team and help explore and protect the galaxy. It's not an easy process and many may not be willing but they will find those that seek adventure and want to protect others and they will together work to keep the universe safe. But it won't all be fun and games but that isn't to say he won't try to make it that way. While Garth puts on the front of the carefree young boy that he is, he continues to search for any information on his brother Mekt. Although that hasn't been something he's shared with the others yet.

INTERVIEW RECORDING
Garth sat in the control room his legs spread wide in front of him and his hands behind his head as he lounged around on the bridge. He was sitting in the captain’s chair and enjoying just relaxing and being the 'boss' while Rokk was out doing something somewhere, honestly Rokk had told him three times where he was going but he couldn't recall. He would have to ask Imra. So that meant that the duties of Captain fell to him something he wasn't about to complain about. He currently had his eyes closed and was almost nearly asleep. He was enjoying the calm before the storm at least that would be his excuse; you have to enjoy the little things when you could.
The sounds of footsteps had him becoming alert but that didn't mean he raised his head or gave any indication he was awake. As he listened to the footfalls he knew immediately they were female far too soft to be anyone who worked on the bridge and not the stomping quality he'd begun to associate with Laurel and the boots weren't the same sound that he was not associating with Mysa. So that left only Imra.
As the steps stopped just beside his chair he glanced up at her from behind his long bangs and flashed her smile. His blue eyes took in his expression and the emotion in her blue eyes that he was sitting up straighter and giving her a look of concern as he studied her intently as though looking for a mark on her, a sign that she was hurt. "Imra, what's wrong?" The questioned left his lips and he waited for her to answer to slip into his mind and when nothing immediate came to him, his frown only deepened as he watched her avert her eyes from him.
That avoidance she showed him had his back up and his protectiveness rearing its head as he was on his feet and turning to face her, almost crowding her with his massive bulk compared to her slighter frame. His fingers curled along her upper arms to keep her from getting away from him. To most he looked like all sorts of intimidating but his grip was loose and gentle as well as his face a mask of worry as clearly something was bothering her enough for her to come to try and talk to him and here was coming off probably like a dick.
He immediately dropped his arms and rubbed his hand sheepishly along the back of his neck. smooth move dude! He thought to himself even as he was quick to try and recover from this massive fail. "Sorry, I didn't mean to crowd you...but Imra you can talk to me about anything, whatever you need. I'm here to listen and to help…if you’ll let me," he told her offering her a small, if not somewhat embarrassed grin.
Garth really hoped that he hadn't screwed things up too badly as he stood there his arms now at his sides and one hand tapping nervously on his leg as he waited for her to tell him what was wrong. If he was honest with himself he'd been giving it some thought lately and it wasn't for them to try and get her to change who she was and what she was used to just because it was customary for some privacy. She needed to speak with them and communicate with them and if talking to them through their mind was how she did it and her only way to do so. It wasn't fair what Rokk and himself had asked of her. You could tell he'd been giving that a lot of thought but he'd tell her that after he found out what was wrong, if she wanted to tell him.
